Minister of Sports Borko Ristovski today officially opened the Balkan Youth Wrestling Championship, welcoming young athletes from across the region.
This prestigious sporting event, held at the Boris Trajkovski Arena in Skopje, brought together the region’s greatest talents, both male and female.
At the opening ceremony of the championship, Minister Ristovski stressed the importance of supporting young athletes and fostering sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline among the younger generations.
“This championship is not just a competition, but a celebration of the values that wrestling instills in young people – perseverance, discipline and respect. I am proud that Macedonia is hosting such an important event, which unites the peoples of the region in the spirit of sport,” said Minister Ristovski.
The Minister also thanked the organizers, coaches and volunteers for their efforts in organizing the event, and wished all participants a successful performance in the battles for the Balkan titles.
-These competitions are not only about winning medals but also about building friendships, learning and growing as athletes. I encourage all young wrestlers to give their best and enjoy the experience – stressed Minister Ristovski.
The Balkan Youth Championship, which will last until October 6, includes competitions by category in three age groups – pioneers (U15), cadets (U17) and juniors (U20), giving young wrestlers a chance to shine on the international stage. The championship is attended by 515 wrestlers from Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova and Romania.
The championship aims to promote regional cooperation through sport and inspire the next generation of champions. This mass sports event is also a platform for young athletes to gain valuable international experience, strengthening ties between the countries of the Balkans.
